Tanzania, Uganda partner on oil exploration

Tanzania’s Energy Ministry has formed a partnership with energy experts from Uganda to carry out oil exploration activities throughout various parts of Tanzania.

“We have started to cooperate with Uganda in the oil sector; the government has formed a joint team with Uganda to conduct oil exploration,” he stated.

He added that, although Tanzania has not yet discovered oil, exploration was in progress in various parts of the country.

Additionally, the minister briefed a parliamentary committee on the construction of the Hoima-Tanga crude oil pipeline, pointing out that talks were ongoing between Tanzania and Uganda regarding oil transportation.

“We expected the joint meeting to end this month. But, we have extended the meeting to June. We have learnt that Uganda has completed talks with an investor who will conduct oil drilling,” said the Minister, adding that talks between Tanzania and Uganda on the construction would resume in May.
