The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has constructed a 220kV-137km transmission line from Kawanda to Masaka West substation to evacuate power from the Bujagali and other proposed hydro power stations on the Nile to the central and western parts of Uganda, as well as serve as a high voltage backbone to the proposed regional interconnection network between Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and DR Congo.
The project has been jointly funded by the World Bank (IDA) under the Electricity Sector Development Program (ESOP) and the Government of Uganda. Currently the transmission line is energized and fully operational.
