Morocco has officially joined «Mission Innovation», a global initiative on clean energy, hence becoming the first African country to take part in this initiative which is aimed at reinvigorating and accelerating public and private global clean energy innovation.

«It's a great honor and we underline our commitment to bring added value to the fight against climate change», Morocco's minister of energy, mining and sustainable developpement, Aziz Rabbah, said at the opening of the Fourth Mission Innovation Ministerial meeting in Vancouver, Canada.

«The Moroccan energy strategy is fully in line with Mission Innovation's objectives of accelerating innovation in the development of clean energy to limit global warming», he pointed out.

He also expressed the interest of the Moroccan government in hosting the next ministerial conference of the alliance.

African countries are adressing several challenges, he said, noting in this respect the need for access to electricity and drinking water, the preservation of the natural environment, new urbanization and the development of the rural world.

Morocco seeks to increase the renewable energy share within the national mix to more than 50% by 2030, the minister said.

Mission Innovation’s fourth annual Ministerial gathering (MI-4) brought together ministers, business leaders and innovators to share ideas, best practices and to facilitate collaboration towards the development of affordable and sustainable clean energy solutions.
